“100 Years of Solitude” is a captivating photo project inspired by the novel of the same name by Gabriel García Márquez. Set in the fictional town of Macondo, the project delves into themes of isolation and the search for identity. As a model on the project, I had the opportunity to take on the role of several characters, including José Arcadio Buendía, Pilar Ternera, and Melquíades the gypsy.
The project was brought to life by the talented Wendy Castaño Vega, a London-based designer with roots in both Paris and Colombia. Wendy is known for her ability to evoke powerful emotions in her work through the use of cryptic designs and a blend of magical realism and energy. With a background in fashion design and fine art, Wendy is no stranger to the world of fashion, having worked backstage at Alexander McQueen’s Paris Fashion Week and as a couture surface embellisher.
The photo shoot for “100 Years of Solitude” took place in the stunning Richmond Park, with my face painted in tribal Colombian indigenous markings and adorned with heavy, rusty chains. Wendy’s attention to detail was evident in every aspect of the project, from the costume design to the overall visual direction.
As a model on this project, I felt deeply immersed in the world of Macondo and the complex, multilayered characters that inhabit it. It was a truly unique and memorable experience, and I am grateful to have been a part of it.
